The mural imagines the village in a future moment, not as it is today, but as it could become. Before beginning, the Trespassers collective spent time in and around the village, walking through its streets, observing daily life, and sketching what they saw. Once a small settlement of mud houses with only a handful of residents, the village became the starting point for a collective act of reimagination. The mural evolved much like the group's way of working: one artist started a drawing, another added to it, and another built on it further, allowing forms to emerge.
Seen through a fisheye lens. A water body sits in front of us, opening to vast blue skies surrounded by mountains and farmland; our tiny village is nestled within it.
The future still looks familiar: children playing on the ground, old men with their afternoon chatter, and a woman walking to work. Technology becomes part of the infrastructure rather than taking over the landscape. Vertical axis wind turbines, solar panels, water storage, and green spaces sit alongside the houses and farmland.
Time moves through the image in the clouds; in the reflection caught by the solar panels, wind turbines, water tanks, and windows, each surface reflects a little bit of the passing time.
It is not a completely different future. It is this village, imagined a little further in time.

Trespassers is an artist collective from Kerala whose collaborative practice transforms painting into a shared form of visual storytelling. Their layered murals and canvases emerge through a process where each artist builds on another's work, creating dreamlike narratives shaped by multiple perspectives. Rooted in public art, their work draws on memory, folklore, and Kerala's cultural heritage, bringing collective stories into everyday spaces.
