This mural is located at the threshold of Vellore. At first glance, it imagines a seemingly utopian future, but what if the future is already here, not as a daydream, but as something felt and lived every day?
The image of the mural is broken into five parts. At the center is a house being watered by a man. From this point, the image spreads outward like the roots of a banyan tree, forming concentric ways of living. Inland fishermen and everyday agricultural labor shaped by older knowledge appear as they are, making up life in the region.
In its childlike naivety, the mural brings together a universe where food and consumption function as everyday sustainable practices. Sustainability shows up in mundanity. It traces cycles of farm to table, showing how land, labor, and nourishment move into each other through routine and use.

Homework Studio is a multidisciplinary art and design Studio founded in 2019, based out of Bandra, Mumbai. The studio works across murals, animation, immersive installations, branding and spatial and product design, using visual storytelling as a way to think through space, material, and context.Made up of artists and designers working collaboratively, Homework Studio moves between art and design without fixing itself to one format. With six years of practice, the studio has worked with brands including Uber, Adidas, Fila, Spotify, Jameson, and Breezer, while still staying grounded in experimentation, and the process of making.
